Cancer Care & Research

The "Veda Approach" is built on the belief that every patient’s journey contributes to a larger body of knowledge that will eventually defeat cancer. Our research initiatives focus on making treatments more effective, less toxic, and highly personalized.

The Institute of Cancer Care is a comprehensive oncology centre that provides screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship support for patients with different types of cancers. Cancer care is complex and often involves more than one type of therapy, so the institute follows a multidisciplinary tumour‑board approach where specialists from medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, and supportive care discuss each case together.

The aim is to design an individualised treatment plan that is scientifically sound and suited to the stage of disease, overall health, and personal needs of the patient. Along with active treatment, focus is also placed on symptom control, psychological support, nutrition, and long‑term follow‑up.

Cancer Screening & Early Detection

Early detection can significantly improve outcomes in many cancers. The institute offers:

    • Screening consultations for high‑risk individuals based on family history, smoking, or other risk factors.
    • Breast, cervical, colon, and oral cancer screening programmes.
    • Appropriate imaging and endoscopic tests recommended by specialists.

Educating the community on warning signs and encouraging timely check‑ups is a key part of the institute’s outreach strategy.

    Diagnosis & Staging

Accurate diagnosis and precise staging are essential for planning treatment. The team works closely with pathology, radiology, and imaging services to provide:

      • Biopsy and cytology services to confirm the type of cancer.
      • Imaging such as CT, MRI, PET‑CT (if available through tie‑ups), ultrasound, and X‑ray to assess spread.
      • Lab tests to evaluate organ function and prepare the patient for therapy.

Once staging is complete, the tumour board reviews the case and recommends the most appropriate combination of treatments.

      Treatment Services

The Institute of Cancer Care offers:

        • Medical oncology: Chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and hormone therapy administered in a day‑care or in‑patient setting with close monitoring for side‑effects.
        • Surgical oncology: Operations to remove tumours while preserving as much normal tissue and function as safely possible, sometimes combined with reconstruction.
        • Radiation oncology: If radiation services are available on‑site or via trusted partners, patients receive carefully planned therapy to target cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissues.

Supportive care encompasses pain management, infection control, blood product transfusions when necessary, and nutritional support during and after treatment.

        Support, Counselling & Follow‑up

Cancer treatment affects not only the body but also the mind, emotions, and family life. The institute, wherever possible, provides or coordinates:

          • Counselling services to help patients and families cope with diagnosis, treatment decisions, and lifestyle changes.
          • Nutrition guidance to manage appetite, weight changes, and treatment‑related digestive side‑effects.
          • Rehabilitation and survivorship programmes focusing on returning to daily life, work, and long‑term monitoring for recurrence or late effects.

Clear follow-up schedules are provided at discharge, and patients are encouraged to report any new symptoms promptly so they can be assessed as soon as possible.
